About this place
The primary draw of Nezu's Sobakokoro is the pleasure of lifting its neatly prepared, slender soba noodles. Inhale with each mouthful, and the rich fragrance of buckwheat flour emerges, matched by a firm texture and a silky glide. Beyond the classic mori soba served with a concentrated dipping sauce driven by sharp bonito dashi, the Awayuki—cloaked in a delicate froth of Nagoya Cochin egg—stands out as one of the restaurant's signature bowls. In the evening, the kamo mori offers another seasonal highlight, with the savor of tender duck and charred leeks melting into warm dipping broth.
Looming just as large is the opportunity to enjoy soba-mae appetizers while waiting for your noodles. Skewered yaki-miso paste studded with buckwheat groats and toasted over charcoal, alongside lightly seared board-pressed fish cake from Odawara's Suzuhiro, pair naturally with a cold beer or chilled sake. For variety, the assorted appetizer platter gathers duck breast roast, simmered Pacific herring, and kaeshi-marinated cheese onto a single plate.
Seating includes tables on the 1st floor and traditional tatami mats on the 2nd floor, setting an unhurried, calm backdrop for your meal. At the end, staff bring a rich, cloudy soba cooking water to blend with your remaining dipping sauce, letting you savor the last notes of dashi broth.
